City of Lakeport
The City of Lakeport is located on the northwest shore of Clear Lake. Lakeport is the regional center of commerce and governmental activity in Lake County and a major access point for recreational boating on Clear Lake. State Highways 20 and 175 provide access from the west to the Lakeport area. Lampson Field Airport is located less than two miles from the south City limits, with a 3,700-foot lighted runway, aircraft fuel and service.
Lakeport was incorporated in 1888, but the history of Lake County's oldest town goes back at least another 40 years to the Gold Rush era of the late 1840's. Miners beading to and from the gold fields began passing through Lake County in 1847 and 1848. Many of whom returned at the conclusion of the Gold Rush to settle permanently. The city's population in 1888 was 700 people.
There are six business centers in the Lakeport area, including the historic downtown area which was designated a California Main Street Demonstration City in 1995.
